Who Comes to Eastern?
RAELYNN BROWN came to EAC from the family ranch
near Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, where she also grew up.
Although
Raelynn’s
family had roots in the Gila Valley, she faced the typical “going
away to college” concerns. “It was a little scary. But
many of us aren’t from around here, so you’re not the
only one far from home. You make friends just walking across campus
because everyone says hello, and you get involved real fast.” A
campus tour guide, member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, and
active in her church, Raelynn appreciates EAC’s close-knit
community. “I wasn’t ready for a four-year school, with
huge classes and teachers who can’t remember your name. But
I’ve received great preparation. I’ll be ready to leave
my comfort zone when it’s time to transfer.” Choosing
EAC wasn’t hard. “My great-grandpa went to Eastern.
My grandpa went to Eastern. My mom and dad met here.” So,
when it was time to go to college, it was easy. She was going to
Eastern! What’s best about Eastern? “You work with teachers
one-on-one. They really get to know you. It’s a great place
to begin.”
