Service Opportunities

Performing volunteer service is a win/win situation for everyone involved. As a student it can make your academic work seem more pertinent to the “real world”, increases your civic responsibility, broadens your cultural awareness, and makes you feel great. The community gets some much-needed help and a positive perspective of our students.

ASEAC organizes several service opportunities each year in which you can be involved as an individual or a group. Several activities such as Highway Cleanup are yet to be scheduled. Watch the Monday Monster for updated information.

The Red Cross loves Eastern Arizona College because we sponsor award-winning blood drives each semester. Many first-time donors begin a lifetime of lifesaving donations. Be sure to eat lots of iron rich food, stay healthy and drink plenty of fluids before you donate. If you can’t donate, volunteers are needed to help with the drive activities.

The Fall Drive is scheduled:
Thursday, November 4, 2004
10:00 AM -- ASEAC Blood Drive
Open Dining Area-GLH Jr. AC

Spring Drive: To Be Announced

Each year, ASEAC has fun at a Volleyball tournament plus collects a truckload of toys for needy children.
Saturday, November 20, 2004
10:00 AM -- ASEAC Volleyball Toy Drive
Guitteau Gymnasium

Thousands of dollars are raised annually on behalf of the American Cancer Society at the Relay for Life. Groups camp overnight on the EAC football field where they eat and have fun while they walk the night away as part of the battle against the disease that has impacted each of us.
Friday, April 1, 2005
12:00 PM -- ASEAC/American Cancer Society "Relay For Life"
Mickelson Stadium

OFF-CAMPUS OPPORTUNITIES:

The Volunteer Center of Southeast Arizona, Inc 428-7891

Various jobs, sites and times throughout Graham, Greenlee, Cochise and Santa Cruz Counties. The Volunteer Center interviews volunteers and finds an appropriate volunteer site locally or in one of the surrounding counties. Filing, yard work, answering phones, tutoring children, are just a few of the jobs.

Student Orientation for Success Service Requirement

The “Orientation for Student Success” class requires 5 hours of service as an introduction to the positive benefit that you and the community can experience as a result of your volunteerism.

Use the following guidelines to fulfill the Service requirement:

  • Choose a Service Activity from the Service Opportunities List, a recommendation by your instructor, or one of your own choice

  • An acceptable project is one that contributes to the welfare of others in a charitable way

  • Call the Contact Person to arrange the time and date of your service.

  • Fulfill your agreement to serve by showing up on time and completing the activity in a responsible manner. They are counting on you! Failure to follow through on your commitment reflects negatively on all of us. If an emergency arises and you cannot volunteer as planned, notify the Contact Person as soon as possible.

  • Ask the Contact Person to provide documentation of your service. For example a letter, note, certificate, or an e-mail.

  • Submit the documentation to your instructor.

If you would like an Activity Transcript of your service or any similar activities you are involved as an EAC student, please contact Asst. Dean Pascoe in the Student Life Office.

We hope this experience will encourage you to pursue Service Learning experiences in some of your classes and a lifetime of volunteerism.

Questions? Contact your “Orientation for Student Success” instructor or Asst. Dean Pascoe in Student Life at holly.pascoe@eac.edu or 428-835
