Academic Advising
Types of Advising:
Academic Advisors are instructors who teach
in the field you are majoring in. During the school year,
you are strongly encouraged to contact the instructor in
your major for help in your specific area. www.eac.edu/Utilities/Directories/dirGroup.asp?Group=ThatcherStaff
Please be aware that most Academic Advisors are not available
during the summer months. You may contact the Counseling
department for assistance during this time.
Counselors offer advising for General Studies
degrees and all other degrees and certificates Eastern Arizona
College offers.
Academic Advising:
The goal of academic advising is to assist the student with
developing an educational plan and goals. The student carries
the ultimate responsibility for making decisions about life
goals and educational plans. Our counselors are to act as
a resource of information to achieve those goals.
Advising is strongly recommended for:
-
All new students attending EAC
-
All degree-seeking students
-
All students who intend to transfer to another college
or university
-
All students who are unsure of what major they would
like to pursue
How to prepare for your visit to speak with an advisor/counselor:
-
Complete the Form
for Admission to EAC and
take the COMPASS placement test for English, reading
and math.
-
Determine which course you are going to sign up for based
on the recommendations on your COMPASS test scores.
-
Review the EAC catalog and class schedule
-
Bring to your advising session a folder containing as
much information as you can gather about your academic
performance to date and about your academic plans for
the future. Items you should include in your folder are:
up-to-date unofficial transcripts showing all previous
college course work (including dual credit earned while
in high school); assessment or placement test scores
indicating your current skill levels in writing, mathematics
or reading; interest or aptitude tests you may have taken
previously (for example, the Armed Services Vocational
Aptitude Battery (ASVAB); and any other information about
yourself you think might be helpful to an advisor in
assisting you with developing an academic plan. Include
as well, information about transfer options you are considering
(catalogs, program descriptions, curriculum planning
guides, etc.)
-
If applicable, send official transcripts from any academic
institutions you have attended to EAC Records and Registration,
615 N. Stadium Ave. Thatcher, AZ 85552 and have them evaluated
prior to your advisor visit.
Student’s responsibilities in the advisement process:
-
Student is expected to be knowledgeable about college
policies, procedures and requirements
-

-
Student is expected to obtain the class schedule and
review possible course options prior to meeting with an
