Native American Success Program

What is the Native American Success Program?

The Native American Success Program is a program developed by the Counseling Department at Eastern Arizona College to improve the retention of Native American students.

What is the goal of the program?

The goal of the program is to help students adjust to college life, learn study skills, stay in school, and succeed through a class called Orientation to Student Success. In addition, students can participate in a peer support group.

Who is eligible for the program?

All Native American students are welcome; however, new Native students are encouraged to participate.

What will the program provide for students?

The program is designed to give students the tools, resources, and knowledge they will need to succeed in college. Subjects to be discussed in the Orientation to Student Success class include learning strategies, critical thinking skills and career information. Large group meetings will include subject as financial aid, student life, library resources, academic planning, and substance abuse. In addition, peer support groups will give students the opportunity to discuss any problems any problems that may arise such as homesickness, peer pressure, roommate problems, cultural differences, etc.
