What type of security features does the University Card have?
Your Card cannot be used until you activate it. You select your own PIN number, and you can change your PIN number at
any time during the life of your Card by calling Customer Support.
How do I activate my University Card?
- Call 1-877-789-5874 to activate your University Card. You will need to input your debit card number, your nine-digit social security
number and your date of birth in mm/dd/yyyy format.
- You will be prompted to create a six-digit telephone access code for automated customer service. Once this is completed, your Card
is activated.
- After you activate your Card, you should select a four-digit personal identification number (PIN) by returning to the main menu.
What is a PIN?
Your PIN or Personal Identification Number is a secret four-digit code that gives you access to your Card account. Always keep it
separate from your Card, and never tell it to anyone.
You will need your PIN to get cash at an automated teller machine (ATM), for PIN point-of-sale purchases at a store or to obtain
account information at www.myaccount.chase.com.
NOTE: Your telephone access code and PIN are not the same number.
I just activated my Card and selected my PIN, when will my PIN be active so I can use it at ATMs
or to get cash back with a purchase? Once you have completed the activation process and selected your PIN, you can use
your Card immediately after funds are deposited into your account.
Where can I use my University Card to withdraw my funds?
Your University Card can
be used 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to withdraw your funds at over 900,000 ATMs worldwide. Your Card will also be accepted at retail
locations wherever Visa debit cards are accepted. At many retail locations you can get money back in addition to your purchase using
debit POS.
When I make a withdrawal at an ATM, a question on the screen asks for account type (Savings, Checking,
Money Market, etc.). Which should I choose?
Always select "CHECKING."
Can I check my account balance at an ATM machine?
Yes, if you select "CHECKING" as account type. There may be a fee for an ATM balance inquiry. Fees for balance inquiries are included in
the Schedule of Fees on your enrollment application. You can always get free balance information by accessing the website,
www.myaccount.chase.com or by dialing the toll-free number on the back of your Card.
Will I be assessed ATM charges for using my University Card at local banks? If so, will the charge be
added to my withdrawal?
Most ATM operators charge non-customers a "service fee" or “surcharge” of approximately $0.50 to $1.50 for using their ATMs.
This is deducted directly from your account at the time of withdrawal. You can avoid ATM surcharges by using Chase or other
surcharge-free ATMs. If your Card has an Allpoint logo on the back, ATMs accepting Allpoint transactions will not impose a service fee.
NOTE: At Allpoint ATMs, if the surcharge screen appears during a transaction, enter “YES” to accept the surcharge
and proceed with the withdrawal. You will not be charged the surcharge; this can be verified by reviewing the ATM transaction statement.
Where can I locate the nearest surcharge free ATM?
Visit www.chase.com and if your Card carries the Allpoint logo, visit www.allpointnetwork.com
What do I do if a merchant asks ‘credit’ or ‘debit’?
You may choose either. If you select ‘credit’ simply sign your receipt and go. If you select ‘debit’ you will be asked to enter your PIN after
swiping your Card.
Will I be able to access all of my funds, even if I have an ‘odd amount’ remaining in my account?
You can access the full amount of your funds by requesting cash back when making a point-of-sale debit purchase, for example — at a
supermarket. However cash over purchase limits may apply at the grocery retailer and you may have to request the amount that you
would like to withdraw to the clerk. You may also access your full account balance by requesting a cash disbursement at a bank that
displays the Visa logo.
How much money can I withdraw from an ATM? You may withdraw up to the balance
available in your Chase University Card account or the maximum amount allowed by the ATM, whichever is less.
Can I use my University Card number for direct debits of recurring payments (e.g. monthly utilities,
telephone, etc.)? If your Card has a Visa debit logo, you will be able to use your University Card number for direct debits of
recurring payments. You must maintain sufficient funds in your University Card account to do so.
Can I use my University Card number for online purchases?
If your Card has a Visa debit logo, you will be able to use your University Card number for online purchases.
How can I review my recent transactions?
Your transaction history listing all transactions in the statement cycle, including deposit credits and transaction debits, is
available at no charge through the Internet at www.myaccount.chase.com or by calling the toll-free number on the back of your Card.
Who else can see my withdrawal and purchase transactions? For your security and privacy,
only you can see withdrawal and purchase transactions.
