WebCT FAQ
logging in and out
Why can't I log in?
Typos in your Username or Password are the most common log in problem. Ensure
your caps lock is turned off when logging into your course. Note that usernames
and passwords are case sensitive. If you still can't log in, you may be using
a computer with cookies turned off.

Why do I get a "Page cannot be displayed" error
after clicking the Login button?
This usually occurs when you are connecting through a firewall, if you are
connecting from your workplace or running firewall software at home.
The following information may be helpful to allow you or your IT staff to
configure your firewall to allow a connection to our WebCT server:
- WebCT is running on Port 8900
- Chat is running on Port 4445
- Whiteboard is running on Port 4567
- Java Servlet are running on Port 8009
Why do I get sent back to the login page after I click the login button?
If you don't see an error message, cookies are probably disabled in your
web browser. Cookies must be enabled to access your course. Visit the Browser
Tune-up page for instructions on enabling cookies in your specific browser
version.

How do I log out?
Use the Log Out link located in dark blue navigation bar at the top of any
WebCT page. You can also log out by exiting your browser. Always log out after
you are finished using WebCT, particularly if you are using a shared computer,
such as in a student computer lab.

What if I don't log out?
If you do not log out, another person may come along to the computer you
were using and be able to access your WebCT account. Even if you have "surfed" on
to other sites not related to WebCT, you must still log out, because anyone
could use the Back button on the browser to access the WebCT course under your
name. It is possible that they could view your grades, post messages to the
Discussions using your name, check your email, make public or private postings
to the calendar, etc. This could cause problems for you, so remember to log
out every time you are finished using WebCT.
