Thatcher, AZ—The entire community is invited to attend Eastern Arizona College’s Constitution Day Celebration at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, in the College’s Fine Arts Auditorium. The free event, sponsored by the Associated Students of Eastern Arizona College (ASEAC), will feature Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett.
“The presentation will help attendees relate to the U.S. Constitution and to understand why it is vital to our country,” explained Dr. Gary Sorensen, EAC’s Dean of Students and ASEAC Adviser. “We are thrilled that Secretary Bennett is making a special trip to the Gila Valley to speak at our event and we invite everyone to attend as we commemorate the Constitution.”
Ken Bennett was appointed by Arizona Governor Jan Brewer to replace her as secretary of state, and took the oath of office on January 26, 2009. An Arizona native, Bennett began his legislative career in 1998 when he was elected to represent the residents of Legislative District 1. He served four terms in the state Senate, four years of which he served as Senate President.
Prior to joining the Legislature, Bennett was a member of the Arizona State Board of Education for seven years. He was president of the board in 1996 and 1998. Bennett also served on the Arizona Charter Schools Board for three years, and was a founding member of the Education Leaders Council in Washington, D.C.
