EAC to offer Air Conditioning Certification beginning this Fall
By Lori Dugan
Thatcher, AZ— Eastern Arizona College and Advanced Air Systems have joined forces to offer an intensive, short-term, certification program for entry-level Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning-Refrigeration (HVAC-R) technicians. Courses will be held at the Advanced Air Systems training facility at 2250 W. Highway 70 in Thatcher. Advanced Air Systems owner Tyler Myers will be the instructor.
“This is an amazing opportunity for someone who wants a fast-track into a growing industry,” said EAC dean of instruction, Mike Crockett. “HVAC-R technicians are consistently in high-demand in the southwest. We’ve considered offering this program for years, but now with the cooperation of Advanced Air Systems we can provide it to the community for a fraction of the cost of similar programs elsewhere.”
Tuition cost for Arizona residents will be $1040, plus books. Students must also either demonstrate minimum competencies in math or writing, or pass a math or writing class to complete the HVAC-R certificate.
EAC’s 19-credit certification program is comprised of six courses: Principles of HVAC-R, section #6803; HVAC-R Controls, section #5873; Heating System Basics, section #6804; Troubleshooting HVAC-R Systems, section #6805; Electricity for HVAC-R, section #6806; and EPA Refrigerant Handler Certification, section #6804.
These courses will be delivered in consecutive short-term sessions scheduled from August 17 through December 4, 2015. Classes will meet Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., excluding holidays.
