By Lori Dugan

Thatcher, Ariz.—Eastern Arizona College’s Actors Repertory Theatre will present, Nine Times Ten: A Ten Minute Play Festival, in the SC-3 theater this week, Dec. 2 – 4, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5 per person. There is very limited seating so audiences are encouraged to get their tickets ahead of time online at

The production is a student produced, directed, and performed evening of nine short plays. Three of these plays are written by EAC students, the remaining six are original scripts submitted to the class from professional playwrights who are friends and professional peers of the group’s adviser, Dr. Dale J. Young. The plays range from 3 to 15 minutes and are performed by Rep class students as well as other students from the EAC community. Because these are new scripts, Nine Times Ten is presented in a workshop format, with minimal sets and costumes, but promises to be a solid evening of original entertainment.

“We are thrilled to be presenting original material on the EAC campus. Many of our students have been interested in experimenting with creating original works, and Rep class is an excellent opportunity to do just that. Creating new works is an important way to keep theatre vital and forward leaning, and it’s inspiring to see our students engage in the same writing processes as the established playwrights who have so kindly offered their scripts up to us for use,” said Young who serves as department chair and associate professor of EAC’s theatre program.

“…It was really scary to write an original script. But, it was fun and exciting to have my script read aloud by the class for the first time. I am also directing for the first time, it’s very challenging, but I am excited for everyone to come see our production and share in the results of our hard work,” said Morgan Miller, Actors Rep Student.

Actors Repertory Theatre is a class that produces a different production each semester. Rep class was responsible for the storytelling project “Theories of Relativity” in 2019 as well as partnering with the Theatre Arts Program to co-Produce 2020’s drive through fairy tale extravaganza “Stadium Stories.” Each semester is a unique project, focusing on skillsets necessary in the theatre industry such as the roles of director, producer, playwright, and of course, actor.

The production “Nine Times Ten” is considered PG-13, and seating is limited. Admission is $5 per person, and free to full-time students with ID. For tickets visit the EAC website at and click “get tickets.”
