Take Pilates for Fun and Fitness at EAC this spring
By Jeanné Clark
THATCHER, AZ—Eastern Arizona College is pleased to offer a second section of the popular Pilates for Fun and Fitness class (HPE 101AP, section #5687) for the Spring 2009 semester. The one-credit class, scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from Noon-12:50 p.m., will be taught by Kris Brockmeier Hughes and held at Safford Dance Academy on Main Street in Safford.
This class, suitable for beginners, will teach the six initial movements of Pilates, a physical fitness system that provides a total body workout for the student. Pilates focuses on strengthening and lengthening muscles, making it ideal for creating better posture and correctly aligning the skeletal structure.
“Pilates is great exercise because it’s non-jarring,” says Hughes. “It’s relaxing and beneficial for your mental health as well.” She adds that each student will need to bring their own exercise or yoga mat to class, as well as wear loose-fitting and comfortable workout clothes.
In addition, there are still openings in the other section of this class (section #0526) for students interested in taking Pilates that are unable to attend Hughes’ class. This section meets from 6-6:50 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in Guitteau Gymnasium on Thatcher’s main campus. It is taught by Brooke Bingham.
To register for either section, contact the Records and Registration Office at 428-8270, or register online at www.eac.edu.
