THATCHER, AZ—Eastern Arizona College’s Chamber Orchestra will present a free concert of their latest work at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, in the Gherald L. Hoopes Jr. Activities Center—Lee Little Theater.
The concert will feature several pieces, including Fire Dance by Soon Hee Newbold, Pizzicato Polka by Johann and Josef Strauss, and Norman Dello Joio’s Choreography. The orchestra will also give a special performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Violin Concerto in A Minor, featuring Autumn-Amber Pepper as the solo violinist. “Though Autumn is only fifteen years old, she is very talented and we’re excited to have her as our soloist,” says Franklin Alvarez, EAC’s Chamber Orchestra director.
Another notable piece that the orchestra will perform is Mozart’s Toy Symphony, a unique work that includes an assortment of toys including nightingale and quail calls, a rattle, a toy trumpet, a cuckoo, a triangle, and a toy drum in addition to the string players’ part. All of the toy instruments will be played by members of the orchestra.
