EAC offering three weeks free at the Wellness Center

Thatcher, AZ—Eastern Arizona College’s Wellness Center will be offering a free trial period for anyone over the age of 13 from now through August 22, 2009.

“We want the people of the Gila Valley to have a place to work out and hopefully help them decide to make EAC’s Wellness Center their fitness home,” said Kate McCluskey, EAC’s Wellness Center director.

“The main thing,” continued McCluskey, “is that people not stop exercising. It’s too hard to start back up again. Fitness has to be a way of life, and the Wellness Center is open six days a week. We are committed so that people can stay committed.”

McCluskey also has some advice for those who haven’t exercised in a while but are ready to take advantage of the free offer to get back in shape and stay there:

Dress comfortably—in a recent health related survey people said that “comfort” was the most important function of their fitness apparel. Wearing comfortable workout gear can help you stay focused on getting into shape.

Get a partner—the survey also found that people feel more motivated and dedicated when they workout with partners. A partner gives you extra encouragement and can help you stay on track.

Enjoy exercising—Exercise doesn’t have to be painful and boring. Find an exercise routine that you enjoy. Walk around the track or campus or try something new.

Whatever exercises you choose, start slowly and work your way up to longer, more vigorous exercises. Set attainable goals and evaluate your progress. If you enjoy the exercises, you’re more likely to reach your goals.

Summer/free trial hours at the Wellness Center (through August 22) are:

Monday-Thursday 5 a.m.-Noon and 3-8 p.m.

Friday 5 a.m.-Noon and 3-6 p.m.

Closed each weekday Noon-3 p.m.

Saturday 8 a.m.-Noon

Fall semester hours (beginning August 24):

Monday-Thursday 5 a.m.-8:30 p.m.

Friday 5 a.m.-6 p.m.

Saturday 8 a.m.-Noon
