EAC and Desert Sky Gazers present “Your MGIO – An Astronomy Update”
By Jeanné Clark
THATCHER, AZ—Eastern Arizona College’s Discovery Park Campus, in partnership with the Desert Sky Gazers amateur astronomy club, will present “Your MGIO – An Astronomy Update” on Saturday, October 24, at 6:30 p.m., in the Jupiter Room of Discovery Park Campus. This free, family-friendly update on astronomy and the Mount Graham International Observatory (MGIO) will be presented by John Ratje, MGIO Site Manager.
“Here is a unique opportunity to hear and see just what is happening in the fast-paced science of astronomy,” says Harry Swanson, dean of Discovery Park Campus. “You’ll be able to hear all about the new discoveries in astronomy as well as find out what the world’s largest binocular telescope has been doing lately.”
“Plus, there is absolutely no better presenter than John Ratje for this topic,” continues Swanson. “He is an expert and wears many hats in the science field! In addition to managing the MGIO site, he is a Desert Sky Gazers member, Assistant Director of the Steward Observatory, EAC astronomy and physics instructor, and personal protector and repairer for the campus 20-inch Tinsley reflector.”
