EAC Dance Department invites public to “Vintage Ball”

THATCHER, AZ—Eastern Arizona College’s dance classes and the EAC Dance Club are hosting a “Vintage Ball” on Saturday, November 7, 2009, in the Gherald L. Hoopes Jr. Activities Center-Main Dining Hall at 7 p.m. Admission to the Ball is free.
“Come and enjoy an evening of music and dance from an elegant, bygone era,” says EAC dance instructor Gayla Curtis. “This Vintage Ball will be set in the time of the English Regency in the early 1800s. This was the era of the Napoleonic Wars, and Empress Josephine set the fashion for ladies with the high empire waist and flimsy, gauzy dresses.”
Curtis invites everyone to come to the Vintage Ball. “Attendees of the ball are also cordially invited to dance. The event is open and suitable to the entire public,” said Curtis.
Attire for the ball is dressy or appropriate to the time period. Members of the dance class will be performing and teaching English country dances, cotillions, and waltzes. “The daring, highly controversial waltz was just becoming fashionable at this time,” says Curtis, “so of course we will be dancing it.”
