Dance Department invites public to Regency Ball

Thatcher, AZ—Eastern Arizona College’s dance classes and the EAC Dance Club are hosting a Regency Ball on Saturday, November 20, 2010, in the Gherald L. Hoopes Jr. Activities Center-Main Dining Hall at 7 p.m. Admission to the Ball is free.
“Come and enjoy an evening of music and dance from an elegant, bygone era,” says EAC dance instructor Gayla Curtis. “This Regency Ball will be set in the time of the English Regency in the early 1800s. This was the era of the Napoleonic Wars, when Empress Josephine set the fashion for ladies with the high empire waist and flimsy, gauzy dresses.”
Curtis invites everyone to come to the Regency Ball. “Attendees of the ball are also cordially invited to dance,” says Curtis. “The event is open and suitable to the entire public.”
Attire for the ball is dressy or appropriate to the time period. The dance class will perform and teach English country dances, cotillions, and waltzes. “Dances of the era were lively and bouncy, not smooth,” says Curtis, “with steps ranging from simple skipping to elaborate ballet-style movements.”
