Theatre Arts Department presents Proof
By Stephanie Caffall
Thatcher, AZ—Tickets are selling quickly at Eastern Arizona College for this weekends performance of Proof, David Auburns Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play. The very talented cast, comprised of Jessamine Conway, Robert Torres, Tara Whittle, Marshall Eastin, and Cody Abalos, will present this gripping tale on April 14, 15, 16, 21, and 22, at 7:30 p.m. and at 2 p.m. on April 23, in EACs SC-3 Theatre located on the Colleges South Campus.
This is a play about family values, love, and the fine line between love and hate, or genius and great insanity, says the plays director and EAC theatre arts instructor, John Rice.
The main character of Proof, Robert, is a professor of mathematics at the University of Chicago who made three major contributions to mathematical theory before he was twenty-three years old. But, very shortly thereafter, his brilliant young mind began to slide into deterioration and eventually into total madness. The play begins around the time of his death. It tells the story of the legacy he leaves behind.
This production is not recommended for younger audiences. Admission to the play is $5 per person. Full time EAC students with I.D. are admitted free. Tickets are available at the EAC Ticket Office at (928) 428-8228, and will also be available at the door.
