EAC’s tenth Nursing class holds pinning ceremony

THATCHER, AZ—Members of Eastern Arizona College’s tenth nursing class were recognized May 11, at the College’s 2006 Nursing Class Pinning Ceremony and Reception which marked the successful completion of two years of rigorous nursing studies and training.

Thirty students were presented with special nursing pins acknowledging their success in EAC’s Nursing Program. The students were also among the graduates who received their Associate of Applied Science degrees at the 116th Commencement Exercises held May 12, in Thatcher at John Mickelson Stadium.

Students completing the requirements for nursing were: Heidi R. Balfour, R. Jason Beals, Yolanda T. Bertoldo, Raelynn Brown, Alicia A. Burrell, Sara Davis, Ashleigh Annielle Deegan, Brenda DeWitt, Lisa Donham, Kimberly Ann Grigsby, Kristin Dawn Grimes, Marlana Deann Herbert, Nicholas James Hicks, Debra Lee Isaacs, Doneilleen Isaacs, Amber Lynn Klock, Lucinda F. Layton, Emily Rose Lizarraras, Annette Villalobos Lopez, Dawn Sheree Lunt, Heather Mack, Christina Marble, Danette R. Martin, Rebecca Merz, Heather M. Olcott, Christine Perea, MarJean Poindexter, Tammy Rains, Tawnya S. Sanford, and Kami L. Skinner.

A large, appreciative audience of family members and well wishers witnessed the ceremony, held in EAC’s Gherald L. Hoopes Jr. Activities Center-Lee Little Theatre.

Completion of EAC’s nursing program qualifies the students to take the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Exam-Registered Nurse) exam, which will be given this summer. Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN exam will qualify the individuals for licensure as registered nurses.

The guest speaker was former EAC Nursing Instructor, Rose Marie Atencio, who is currently teaching nursing at Gila Community College.

Others participating in the mid-afternoon pinning ceremony were: opening and welcome remarks by EAC’s Director of Nursing and Allied Health, Dr. Mayuree Siripoon; presentation of pins by EAC Dean of Instruction, Jeanne Bryce; pinning and comments by EAC Nursing Instructors, Roni DeLao Kerns, Sara Lemley, and Sandy Ludwig, and a special musical selection by Jason Beals and Samantha Pawlak.
