Thatcher, AZ—THATCHER, AZ—EAC’s Discovery Park Campus and the Desert SkyGazers Amateur Astronomy Club are pleased to announce the culmination of its Spring Lecture Series with a community “Star Party” to be held Saturday, May 21, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. at the Discovery Park Campus Circle “D” Ranch House. This free activity is open to the public and is suitable for all ages.
“As winter gives way to summer, the constellations of Orion and Gemini retire for a season and allow us to get reacquainted with The Summer Triangle and Orion’s arch-enemy, Scorpius,” says Discovery Park Campus Director Paul Anger. “Throughout the evening we will hear some of the ancient stories and myths depicted by the patterns in the stars, we may even hear some of their fun and ‘mysterious’ experiences while searching ‘out there.’”
Members of the Desert SkyGazers Amatuer Astronomy Club will be on hand with several telescopes and laser pointers to point out the constellations and interesting objects.
“This is a great chance to dust off that old telescope and bring it out to the Star Party to rediscover the Universe and remember what a treasure it really is. Don’t forget to wear comfortable closed-toe shoes, we’ll be outside under the stars, and bring along a light jacket as it still get a little chilly at night,” concluded Anger.
