Discovery Park Campus hosts Desert SkyGazers Amateur Astronomy Club Lecture
By Lexi Heninger
THATCHER, AZ —Eastern Arizona College’s Discovery Park Campus is delighted to present an exciting outdoor presentation of Mythology Under the Stars on Saturday, September 10, 2011, at 6:30 p.m. at Discovery Park’s Gov Aker Observatory.
Bob Hiatt has been involved with the Desert Sky Gazers Astronomy Club for several years, and he enjoys sharing his love of astronomy. Hiatt believes mythology is a fun side of astronomy and has always felt that it should be explored in depth and shared with everybody.
“It’s exciting to realize that what are simply entertaining stories to us, were actually concepts and beliefs of different cultures and religions, specifically the Romans and Greeks,” says Paul Anger, director of Discovery Park Campus. “Much more than complicated stories, they were explanations of what they saw and understood in the world around them, and even defined the very nature of the gods that they worshipped.”
Come join us in this exciting opportunity to not only hear the stories behind these constellations, but also have them pointed out in the night sky. For more information, contact EAC’s Discovery Park Campus at (928) 428-6260.
