Thatcher, AZ— The stadium was filled at Eastern Arizona College’s annual Band Day, held Saturday, October 15, 2011, at John Mickelson Field. The event featured 16 marching bands from high schools all over the state.
Bands were evaluated by a panel of authorities offering taped comments with suggestions for improvement. Seven bands took home a Superior rating and nine took an Excellent rating, qualifying them for the Division IV State Marching Band Festival in November.
High school bands receiving a Superior rating were Pima, Morenci, Snowflake, Safford, Palo Verde Magnet High School (Tucson), Cholla High Magnet School (Tucson), and Central (Phoenix).
Bands receiving an Excellent rating were Ray High School (Kearny), Thatcher, Miami, Holbrook, Estrella (Avondale), Globe, Blue Ridge (Lakeside), Show Low, and Pusch Ridge Christian Academy (Tucson).
“EAC’s Band Day is an opportunity for band students from small and large high schools around the state to perform and showcase their efforts and hard work and receive suggestions for growth from a panel of experts in the activity,” said Geoff DeSpain, EAC’s director of bands. “We are privileged to host these terrific high school bands and hope these students consider the EAC band program in their future plans.”
