Paul Lemons Scholarship for Students of EAC

By Lexi Heninger

Thatcher, AZ—The family and friends of Paul Lemons have established the Paul Lemons Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was started in memory of Lawrence Paul Lemons, who passed away on July 4, 2011, in Mesa, Arizona, at the age of 78. Paul enjoyed his years at EAC where he played football and built life-long friendships, and now his family is honoring him by helping an EAC student do the same.

The scholarship is awarded to a full-time student majoring in education, with preference given to students from Miami or Morenci. The recipient must have a 3.0 GPA or higher and demonstrate financial need.

Lemons was born in Lordsburg, New Mexico. He was raised in the Morenci area where he graduated high school as a proud “Wildcat.” He joined the Air Force after graduation and served for three years. He attended Eastern Arizona College, Idaho State University, and Arizona State University, where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. He was a lifelong educator and during his 28-year career he served as a high school business teacher, district business manager, county school superintendent, principal, state administrator, and the superintendent of schools for the Miami School District from 1974 to 1992.
