By Lexi Heninger
Thatcher, AZ—A stunning sculpture exhibit by artist Andrew Turley, Roots and Branches, is on display in in Eastern Arizona College’s Activities Center Lobby now through December 19, 2011.
This free sculpture exhibit includes a variety of materials and processes that explore genealogy. Each piece is an interpretation of a different expression of a family tree.
“Come explore Andrew’s visual interpretations of the family tree,” says EAC art instructor, Kenny Rhodes, and host of the exhibit. “Some are sewn, others are bound or welded. Others include hair, handprints, and gravestone rubbings.”
“These works, like visual poetry, explore metaphors that expand our view of family ties,” says Turley. “Several of the pieces map the movement of my own ancestry; showing how I came to be born in the West, specifically Tucson. Come and enjoy the exhibit, and perhaps consider your own connection to your roots.”
