Thatcher, AZ—The stands at John Mickelson Stadium were once again filled to capacity as family and friends gathered for Eastern Arizona College's 122nd annual commencement exercises held the evening of May 11. There were a total of 467 candidates for graduation.

In addition to the traditional portions of the event, the audience heard comments from a number of individuals, including a welcome from EAC President Mark Bryce and remarks from the president of EAC's Alumni Association, George Lord.

The guest speaker for the evening was Arizona House of Representatives Representative Tom Forese. Also taking the podium to speak was Class of 2012 representative, Brittany Whiting, and faculty representative, JoAnn Morales.

Forese was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2012, representing the 21st district. He currently serves on the Appropriations Committee, the Government Committee, and as Chairman of the Higher Education, Innovation and Reform Committee. Forese also serves, at the Governor's request, on the Arizona Ready Education Council. As confirmation of the good work he is doing, the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry voted Forese the Freshman Legislator of the Year in 2011.

Whiting, daughter of Larry and Nancy Titus, was raised in Snowflake, Arizona. She graduated Friday evening with her Associate Degree in General Studies. In her coursework at EAC, Whiting maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She is transferring to Pima Medical School where she will pursue a degree as a radiology technician.

Morales, EAC Social Sciences Division Chair, spoke representing the faculty.

Morales is a native of Thatcher, Arizona, with an associate degree from Eastern Arizona College, a bachelor of science degree from Northern Arizona University, and a master's degree, also from NAU. She has experience teaching at the elementary and college level and is respected at EAC for her knowledge, her caring attitude, and her love for students.

A reception in honor of the graduates followed the ceremony at the Gila Hanks Pavilion on the grounds of the stadium.
